LOL, same here...

Hi Max,

I love stopping in marinas that have a captain's lounge where some liveaboard who subscribes to PBO or YACHTING MONTHLY leaves old copies lying around... Port Annapolis and Camachee Cove in St Augustine are 2 that come to mind... They are endlessly recycled, last time I was in PA I think I picked up a copy from around 2006, or something...

Entirely different culture over there, no doubt about it... Some of you may remember the late John Atkisson from the early days of the CWBB, who made an Atlantic Circle - much of it singlehanded - in his beautiful Bristol 32 KESTREL. John sadly passed away several years ago, but his blog is still up, and is a wonderful read and a great source of information for those contemplating such a trip in a smaller boat...

I had the pleasure of meeting John in Beaufort, NC, when he was on the final leg of his return to the Chesapeake. What a wonderful gentleman he was, we had a great evening at the Beaufort Town Docks swapping stories... He loved the time he had spent cruising in Ireland and Scotland, and one remark he made has always stayed with me... He said that one thing he heard repeatedly over there from the locals everywhere he went, was along the lines of "Well, what a welcome change, so see an American cruising on an 'appropriately-sized' boat..." LOL!

best regards,

Jon
