I was playing with the main yesterday morning. It took a while to get sailing in little wind(2 knots or so). I supplied a kick start-coast, with the engine . Experimenting with the main, I put a beer belly in it and saw 1.8kts GPS(riding the falling tide as well). With nowhere in particular to go, 1.8 felt good. There's no way I can tell if we're dead on in sail shape in light air, it's a never ending search.
Then the SE breeze came up to a very nice 7 knots or so, and sailing got easy.
Here, I was stretching the foot out sailing toward Rockland Harbor.
Sails looked pretty flat from down below. A wide angle lens flattens sails.
Nice sailing in Rockland Harbor. I went deep into the South end, watching the depth creep up, 16-15-14-, then jibed(falling tide!), and slowly rode down the city docks until the depth sounder reported 16-15-14, on the North end. Cranked up the sheets tight and took a starboard tack by the famous lighthouse, fell off, and home in the freshening Southeasterly wind.
There's a lot of room to sail inside Rockland Harbor right now.
