Hey Chris,
Puerto Vita is adjacent to an area called Guardalavaca, which with the exception of Varadero, is probably the most massively developed resort area on the island... When I was there about a dozen years ago, there were several very large all-inclusive resorts, packed with Canadians and Europeans... I believe there are numerous international flights that come into Holguin, not too far away...
The woman who managed the marina at Vita was a delightful lady, spoke excellent English, and was extremely helpful... I rented a car for a few days from one of the resorts, drove all around the area, and down to Santiago one day...
He'll have no problem, that area is really geared up to accommodate tourists, and I found most all of the young people in Cuba spoke pretty good English... Hell, I'd wager the percentage who do so in Havana, is probably higher than among the Cubans in Miami... (grin)
It's a beautiful region, sure you don't want to tag along?
best regards,
Jon
