I've gone the other way. I found myself removing 'stuff' just to go off for a few weeks this season.

Realizing for instance, I don't need to carry 8-10 PFD's if it's just my wife and I(I do need those PFD's occasionally for a day sail with friends out of home). More and more I remove that stuff not only for the improved performance I know I'll get, but also for the ease of use open lockers give me. We have easy use space for things like a folding bike when we need it(no shoe horn required).

Having lived with a smaller boat and family of four, this is a breathe of fresh air. It really pays off for me in the enjoyment of the boat and my 'time off' spent onboard. Sort of lightens the whole experience for me. If you're a long distance cruiser in remote areas, you need more 'stuff'. And many people are just pack rats, at home and on the water.
