Cruising Sailors Forum Archive

Not often that I read a CRUISING WORLD article twice...

...but Herb McCormick's story in the latest issue re their aborted transatlantic passage this summer is probably worth reading a 3rd time... Best CW story ever, IMHO...

I had a long conversation with Herb after they returned to Maine, and he filled me in on all the details... It was obviously gonna be a tricky tale to tell without offending the boat's owner, but I think he managed to do that very successfully, doesn't take much reading between lines to divulge what really went on... It's a great read, and a classic cautionary tale re prepping a boat for a passage, adding too much at the last minute to the To Do List, and an over-reliance on some very complex High-tech gear...

If nothing else, it's worth checking out just to see the pic of a Inmarsat dome mounted on the stern arch of a Valiant 42... (grin)

Highly recommended, enjoy Herb's wonderful writing...

best regards,

Jon
