I fought with the fresh water system for three hours again this past Friday, ended up going home totally frustrated. On the inlet side of this tempering unit there is a screen about the size of a nickel. It plugs up with everything. One of my dock neighbors said the PO was likely using the fizzy tabs to keep the fresh water tank chlorinated, the residue from the tabs as well as from lack of use takes less than 15 seconds to plug the screen. After a few glasses of wine Friday evening I decided to do exactly what Todd suggests, go back to the old way of doing this.
Sunday and a quick trip to the club, made some notes and measurements, home and on the laptop. The plumbing is all Sea Tech brand, Hamilton and Defender both carry the products, West Marine does not. I ordered the fittings and tubing necessary to replace that pesky piece of modern technology. I figure that next weekend it will take the appropriate place on a dusty shelf in my workshop. All I'll need to do is remember that hot water is hot and I may need to turn on the cold side of the faucet to keep from scalding myself...........been doing that for enough years, I should be able to remember how.
