I don't keep a log either, and haven't reset the GPS buckets in years. (Probably the last time I did a firmware update, which they stopped doing 2 or 3 years ago.) I have a lot of tracks in Coastal Explorer (on my Surface Pro 3) but I usually don't fire up the laptop if we're just sailing line of sight, or in familiar waters. Sometimes I also used the Navionics USA iPhone app to supplement my info, as it includes bathometric charts from crowd-sourced data (people who uploaded their geocoded fish finder logs) that's more detailed and accurate than the government charts. (It's a steal for $10 for the full program).
We spent about 30 nights out, and did lots of daysailing. We went as far as Salem/Marblehead (~450 round trip) and another ~225 round trip to Block Island, then add all the side-trips and harbor hopping, plus day sails we probably were in the 800-1k range. It was a good summer for us.
We didn't have many strong wind days, and when I look at the average speed on some of our longer tracks in Coastal Explorer we were generally in the 5-6k range, despite our higher speed potential. (I have to admit I was also lazy about deploying light air sails. Generally I didn't do it if we were moving at about 5k+.)
