A must do with 12V inverter driven PL type lamps. The extra load from the starter may damage the inverter (electronic ballast). Since you have not removed the starter and it has worked all this time is impressive.

The removed starter is the only difference between the lamps bought from Home Depot and Alpinglow.

I bought electronic ballasts from an off grid supplier and converted my existing fixtures to PL fluorescent about fifteen years ago. Most of the lamps are still original. Installing Alpinglow would have left large marks and screw holes on the overhead that would have had to be dealt with. These days festoon LEDs are available so the solution to the issue is much easier and cheaper.
