Like you say, it's usually the mundane stuff that bites us. Deaths due to poor electrical wiring probably far exceed deaths by automatic weapons. Hazards of air travel? Fellow I knew came from Coventry, UK to Montreal for a business meeting - stepped out of the terminal building and looked to the right before crossing the street. His trip (and life) ended right there.
