I considered that, Todd, but went with this method from a local boat builder.

I like how this keeps things in place. I'm using 1/8 x 1/2" wide Okume plywood scraps for spacers. This is giving me a nice even space and when the pieces are re-applied, they go right back in place. The full depth (1/2" plugs) in epoxy should never be a problem. I've seen some older decks done with this method. Thanks.
