You can see how close the halyard is to the furler foil... apparently a halyard knot right on the upper furler piece is just too close to the foil, and the foil grabs it, thus wrapping the halyard around the foil and stopping the furling.

I tried easing the halyard, but this just resulted in a big mess at the bottom of the furler...
