The prior yard I used for winter storage used a crane with slings. They never had an accident but it was disconcerting when they would drive the crane while they had my boat in the air, on the way to where wanted to place it.

My current yard uses travelifts. Not as space efficient but much safer.

If you want to pack them close there's only one safe way to move the boat, IMHO: hydraulic trailer.
