Safe Harbor now owns Bay Harbor Marina East and West (Commodore Perry is in between these two marinas). They now control roughly 700 of the approximate 1000 public marina slips available on our bay front.
The news said the sale has been in the works for some time, I suspect the reason they waited until now is that Bay Harbor slip holders are required to put deposits down in the fall and pay in full by now. They have a "no refund" policy if you want to cancel. You are the slip holder through the end of the season, only alternative is to sublet to someone else. That was one of our problems trying to recruit new members. Our invoices just went out, payment is due by 2/28 so most times if someone is leaving the club they won't bother telling us until 3/1. By that time the Bay Harbor people were committed to the season.
PS. The Safe Harbor website is an interesting read.
