I don't use the computer for navigational stuff for lots of reasons ...

we are generally power sensitive & conscious when on passage, the computer is off, we don't use it for navigation anyway, the Plotter brightness is down, we hand steer a lot, whatever. I hate motoring. With the Stand-Alone, it's one less thing to plug in, no cords running all over the place, one less thing to go wrong. When I want to see what's going on around me I'll turn the AIS on but it'll probably be off more than on. This Simrad has very low power draw, well under 1A I think.
