is what I installed last Spring. Defenders had the AIS Class B Transponder for about $700 and Hamilton Marine was having a sale on SiTex chartplotters -- I bought the 5" display for about $300 if i remember right -- less than West Marine wanted for an external AIS display w/o the chartplotter.

The AIS is supposed to draw only 5 watts (.5A) in transmit mode, and the chartplotter is also in the 5-10 watt range. Not a bad combo, though the screen is small. Takes some complicated wiring to install it all though.
