We've had an Iridium for 4 years. It works great, gets a signal anywhere in the Bahamas and Mexico. We use Ocens WeatherNet to get our weather data. We download text data, voyage data, GRIB files, etc. We also use their e-mail. All of it is compresssed for SatPhone usage. The folks that have Globalstar rarely get service. They (Globalstar) are a public company...check out their public statements. Their satellites have deteriorating orbits. I'd suggest talking with Ocens they know SatPhones and weather.
