That might be a partial explanation, but the lack of boats Al describes does seem pretty dramatic...
In Response To: It's not November yet ()

Hi Jeremy,

...perhaps everyone is holding back due to the bridge closure in a few weeks near Charleston? (grin)

In years past, Al would have been overtaken by by the time he reached Beaufort by a herd of powerboats heading from the Annapolis Boat Show down to the Lauderdale Show, that used to be virtually a guaranteed run for me each year... I'm guessing this is gonna be another very slow year for boats headed south, I've only received ONE phone call this fall regarding a delivery south - a Beneteau 62 headed to the Virgins which I reluctantly decided to pass on...

I was always lucky, I never had a client whose insurance prohibited being south of Norfolk before November, the only restriction was usually the boat could not be south of the Florida-Georgia line before then. That sort of restriction is just absurd, most cruisers are probably subject to greater risk being kept north of Norfolk that late from a November northeaster than they would be from a late season hurricane... One good thing about sailing a cheap boat and being self-insured, your cruising plans are not subject to some of these ridiculous dictates from some insurance company... (grin)

best regards,

Jon
