Cruising Sailors Forum Archive

Steve this time I have to agree with you

Without knowing their full story..the news LOL has a way of leaving out pertinent details I'll post a general but pointed comment.

Sail in those waters....then expect a full blown rescue that puts others in jeopardy? It's like sailing during storm season cause after all the coasties will come to the rescue. You choose to do something, evaluate the situation and accept the consequences. If you start saying...oh well I can always get rescued by Coast Guard, French Commandos, USN Seals, the cop on the street whomever...it's time to re-examine the motive. Life ain't a computer game nor is driving the streets of South Central.

My particular chosen route in that part of the world is Australia to South Africa and then well offshore going up the Atlantic. Full well knowing that portions might STILL be too close not to mention the famous Agulhas waves. I accept that responsibility. My choice...my responsibility.

However Steve for those who think violence never serves.....or solves....go ask the Carthaginians. Nice if it were different and well worth striving for, but from the dawn of mankind it's been one of the most human of human traits.

There's a whole world full of governments to blame.

Cheers

Michael
