Lets just say that NO ONE, absolutely no one, knows what in hell the 'actual above MHW' clearances are in North/Central Florida anymore. So far, I (and a few others) have contacted the 'proper' controlling authorities including the Chairmen of several US Senate Committees who ultimately 'govern' this.
Everyone, including large insurance carriers, is supposedly 'investigating'. Ultimately (as the current story goes), the state of Florida will either make the corrections .... or will get notice to rip out the low clearance bridges and rebuild them! Until either correction or a formal notice to mariners .... there will be quite a 'stack-up' of non-english speaking boats that are with close to 65Ft tall rigs in the north and central parts of the Florida ICW.
BTW ... it only took ~40 phone calls to get the closure of the Ben Sawyer Bridge (on the ICW near Charleston) delayed until the 'snowbird migration' was over.
