According to the story, also in Lat38 the other day, a guy takes off on what is supposed to be two consecutive circumnavigations, a well-sponsored and well-equipped voyage of some 65,000 miles. Gets into trouble, requests a rescue....
According to a story from a NZ paper, he was five months into the double circumnavigation in the Southern Ocean, hit a whale, damaged his rudder, had planned to improvise a jury rig with a cabin door and rope (!!) and said he, "I felt it was not a dangerous situation for me. But my insurance company told me this was my last chance to be picked up by a boat. And then my wife said `please, do it for me'."
