Getting hung up in a spot so shallow that a CG48 doesn't dare get near it, in current so strong that you can't paddle 150 yards in 2 hours, because your windlass broke and you apparently don't have a spare anchor begs the question as to why in water that shallow you would need a windlass at all. The CG has helped us when we needed a push to untwist our anchor line from around our keel in New York Harbor. (Not somewhere you'd expect the friendliest reception.) We've helped them by jybing clear of one of their cutters that was continuing to run a search pattern at 0200h when they radioed us to REQUEST we change course. We try to avoid situations that would call for their services, and keep an eye on the depthsounder.
