I just bought an AIS-1000

Good deal with their current $15 off $100 and a few Advantage coupons, less than $500 even with tax. And I'll get nearly $20 in more Advantage coupons. Plus I figure to sell my old SR161 receive only for $100 or so. Set it up at home to see if it all works and it does quite well-saw lots of ships at my house with the software included. Only thing I had to buy for installation was a Cable Clam for the GPS; I already have a VHF antenna from the SR161. Since I have other serial equipment, I prefer the serial interface for low speed devices to dedicating a USB port to each. I use a 4x1 serial to USB adapter to get 4 serial ports from one USB port, and have GPS, AIS, DSC, Pactor modem all connected to it. Only complaint is that sucker is BIG. Fortunately I have room at the chart table instrument area for it.
