I was just quickly browsing through a couple of sites I've got bookmarked, which I do maybe once a month, and I see that the Webb Chiles has recently finished his FIFTH solo circumnavigation.
Fifth time around by himself. Kinda made me wonder what would compel someone to spend that much of their life trying to sail around the world alone (and not racing). Then again, I guess you could say, why the hell not. Funny how we spend our time. Most cruisers thinking about sailing around the world would be satisfied going around once, maybe twice...
I find myself alternately impressed by his "accomplishments", and sort of left wondering, "what in the hell? He does this for recreation?" But perhaps it's not that different from someone who runs ultra-marathons and triathlons every year for fun...
