There is a sort of 'life control' factor while underway that some people find very satisfying. When you are at sea your entire world is your boat...totally unaffected by outside influences (with the exception of weather and an occasional ship). And so you are king here. You make all decisions. You are directly responsible for what needs to be done and when. There is no one else to influence your life...and yes, in our normal land bound world we are affected by circumstances of time, when to eat, sleep, work, etc. But also by distractions like politics, bombings, the wars, poverty, earthquakes, television and the internet.
At sea your world is very small. Your life revolves around immediacy and your actions directly affect you personally. If you don't listen to a radio there is no world outside your bulwarks and in that is a great peace of mind.
Maybe I'm not putting it well in words but anyone who as spent a couple of weeks underway alone understands what I'm talking about.
