We're on the verge of purchasing the new Lowrance broadband radar to replace the old CRT based one on the boat we just bought. I like the close in detail of these units, but especially like the low power draw since our principle use of radar has always been on night passages. Having a radar that only draws about half of what one of our dome lights does means that we'll use it a lot more. What I am concerned about since they are new is whether there is some hidden price to be paid in terms of either reliability or performance. If you believe the marketing hype, there is nothing but good to say about these new radars, but I'd rather hear from someone who already has one.

Between AIS (which we didn't have before) and this new radar, it sure seems that night passages (which have never been my wife's favorite) are going to be a little less stressful.
