As a coastal sailor we're looking out for the small stuff and generally keep the radar range set for less than 2 miles, occasionally zooming out to 4 or even 8 but rarely more than that because I don't want to miss the small stuff close-in. I like what I've read about broadband radar's performance characteristics.
