I was fighting for a higher rating. When we entered the Newport to Enseneda race we needed a PHRF rating. The Gulfstar Sailmaster 50 has never been rated but,,, the Gulfstar AS-50 has ( center cockpit 50 ) so they just gave us that one (123).

Interesting thing is that the Gulfstar AS-50 is almost 8,000 lb lighter with 250 more square feet of sail and almost an additional foot of draft. Our Buick is bordering on being a motor sailor and we were given a rating of 123, same as the lighter faster Gulfstar 50. Hell, a Hylas 47 has a higher rating than us. It just didn't make any sense.

We protested, they didn't care. We gave up.
