Raymarine uses a high speed compass instead 
In Response To: You Need the Rate Sensing Compass for MARPA ()
10/sec and derives rate. I have tried it with GPS, regular 1/sec nmea compass, and when you are bouncing around this is definitely necessary. The later Raymarine MARPA hopefull uses the rate gyro (if you have one).
