Sometimes some riggers have slip sheets -- say about the thickness of a few sheets of thick paper.

I would ask the guy who owns the boatyard where you store
If they are aluminum plate you can bend them..

I thought it looks like a cast aluminum fitting.

I wouldn't worry about breaking the aluminum plates as much as I would the welds but it does't look too bad from here...
