Several recent conversations with RayMarine
In Response To: Autopilot again ()

The older Type 1 and Type 2 linear drive motors and rudder angle reference units will work with the new X-x0 course computers. The existing power cables to the Linear Drive will also work.

So you need a new X-10 course computer and ST70 control head to connect to your old Type 1 linear drive.

An older ST6002 control head (note the "2" - ST6000 and ST6001 will not work) MIGHT work with the new X-x0 course computer as as 2nd control head - it must be tried to determine if the microcode is compatible.

NOTE:

The Raymarine "Autopilot System Guide" says "Each system must contain at least one ST70 autopilot control in the system" HOWEVER: Steven Cruz at Raymarine tech support wrote me an email that said "You will be required to upgrade to the ST6002+ control head" when asked if I could use the ST6000 as the primary control unit. I then called Raymarine and talked to Tech Support in person and was told that a ST70 control head was mandatory.
