Lots to chew on here

I'll have to tune in to the Great Northern Net 3870 khz. I'm currently checking in on the 2 meter Puget Sound Boaters Net at 0747 (Boeing time) daily which is on the Gold Mt. Repeater (146.20, 103.5 tone, negative duplex). It is just reachable with a good antenna as far as Friday Harbor to the north and Olympia to the south.

The Northwest Boaters Net does its rollcall at 0830 and I've started checking in there. I guess there's some room for one at 0800! I'll give it a try.

Regarding the panel LEDs, yes the do put on a mighty show. I'll have to try changing the tuner control cable. I don't have details in front of me. Are you referring to a shield on that cable that should be single-ended? Sounds like you are.

As I probably mentioned before, I'm using an EPlate from Moonraker in Australia for a grounding plate. To provide galvanic isolation, I have a bank of high(ish) voltage capacitors that bridge the foil near the plate. They look like a dead short to HF.

I should send off for some more ferrites.

Not sure what you stated regarding effectiveness of ground plane, counterpoise, plates, etc. If you use a thruhull, then you must have concluded that the 100 square foot counterpoise concept is not as good.

Have you tried a G5RV on your boat? You'd have to bypass the antenna tuner. If you tried it, how was the result?
