I do think that the start battery charging was an afterthought. I didn't actually test for power flowing from start to house bank. I figured it would be necessary to have a diode box on both outputs so that the voltage was the same on both outputs when I changed the jumper setting to compensate for diodes. I had those diode boxes kicking around for a few years before I finally installed them earlier this year.
