Rain is what kills old boats.

Several leaks served notice at once on my 50 year old boat last fall. Of the boats I've owned over the years, they all leaked at one time or another from above. The nice thing about an all glass boat is a drip here and there can go for a long time as long as it's not doing some damage below.

Not so with my current boat. Glass hull and deck aside, everything else is wood and wood is very unforgiving of deck leaks.

This past spring I had to bed all the ports and overhead hatches as well as a few other odds and ends. It was a lot of work but during a deluge onboard the other day, I couldn't find a single drip in the cabin which made it all worthwhile.

A dry boat in a rain storm is a nice place to be.
