All our cabin lights are the old Perko style with a standard base. They're amp hogs but for our use, that's no problem. I like them and get different wattage bulbs, the smallest drawing about 1 amp (15 watt) and use bigger 25 watt in the galley mostly.
You can still find a plastic version with a cloth outer layer, I bought the last bunch at Hamilton Marine. Problem, is they get dirty fast (at least in our boat). These got so bad I painted them after just a few years. Not such a good idea because they become almost opaque. So punched a bunch of holes in them in whatever design you felt like.
Some are all plastic laced on to the frames. I don't like any of them so I'm looking for ideas. Have any?
