Cruising Grounds
In Response To: Batteries: AGM vs regular ()

Hi Craig! We haven't been around for awhile so I've lost touch with where everyone is cruising. We left the US with gel cell batteries and several years later when they had to be replaced in the Western Carib, we couldn't find anything but flooded wet cells. We chose Trojan T-105's which has been a great choice for us. Beware, they are incredibly expensive out of the country. Last year we heard of a few cruisers that had batteries shipped in via Marine Warehouse in Miami, I think. Expensive, but that way they could stay with their current set up. We needed to replace the house bank, the windlass & starting battery were still good, but we had to replace all since we were switching from gel to flooded. Just another consideration if you plan on leaving the US for a longer span of time. I have no clue what the situation is in the Eastern Carib.

Cheers! Jan
