The Freedoms are modified sine wave inverters, and probably being phased out for their true sine wave Prosine models. Modified sine waves are generally less expensive. Some people claim that they don't work well with sensitive equipment, such as computers. I have a Xantrex Freedom 2000, and never had a problem with any computer, or other equipment. They are a little noisy (loud hum when in inverter mode), but use fewer amps when in stand-by than a true sine wave inverter. Practical Sailor had a inverter/charger test in their February and March issues. The Charles (modified sine wave) did not get a high rating, because of its high price. The Freedom was not tested. The Mastervolt Combi12 (true sine wave) got the highest rating ($2,600).
