IMHO gifts are more often about the what the giver wants. To put something on the boat that will not last, will cause me headache at an inopportune time, will need to be replaced before either I sell the boat or leave this earth, then; quite simply, I don't want it.

Years ago someone gave me two tickets to a major tennis tournament final. To use those tickets cost me way more then the purchase price.

Since that time I've used this phrase; if it's free, it's not for me.
