Back in the 70's I used a piece of equipment called a Dinalens that was an giant accessory lens that attached to the front of the lens on a motion picture camera. It was used to stabilize the image when shooting from a moving platform like a car, airplane or boat. Worked great.
Basically a series of lenses that had a gyroscope which would hold the objective (front) lens in one position while the rest of the lens and camera moved or vibrated. You would flip a switch and listen to the gyroscope slowly wind up stabilizing the image. Made a lot of noise.
