we're thinking of getting a couple. Years ago we had a couple 16" Dahons on our old boat and used them a lot going up and down the east coast. They were easy to pack in the lockers of the 28' boat we had back then. They were ok on the road but slow as you would guess.
I've been looking at both 20" and full sized tired bikes. I've pretty much settled on the compromise of the 20" I think they'd still stow pretty easily in our cockpit lockers. The 20" tires will give us better performance than we're used to in a folder.
For the use, I don't think we need to buy the best. But it would be nice to have bikes you could easily throw in the car or even take on a train, bus or even plane in some circumstances.
The one that has caught my eye is this Downtube Nova. What I liked is it looks strong in the areas that were weak on the Dahons. Specifically, the joint in the frame (a Dahon license on this bike but stout, solid looking with a lock) and the joint in the handlebar stem. They were weak on the Dahons.
Also, it's an aluminum frame so it's pretty light, about 25 pounds. Having lugged them in and out of lockers, into dinghys, onto docks, I'm looking for light.
They look simple and basic, I like that. Price is good too at 300. Anybody have any experience with these?
