I leave 30' to 45' of snubber line and the shackle attached to the bow fitting when I am cruising, or even moving about, in an area that I know I will be anchoring in any kind of wind waves or chop. The outboard end has a 1/2" stainless plate (ABI chain grabber) with a notch cut in it that slips over the anchor rode. I secure outboard end of the snubber line to the bow cleat while underway.
The line diameter and length used for the snubber depends on the conditions I expect to anchor in. I want the snubber to have some stretch in to absorb some of the shock load when the Mirador surges back, or sideways, against the anchor and chain.
