That is the "standard" Wharram rudder hinge... they've been in use since the second boat he built. It works like a dream and easy to renew if needed. You will see a lot of deck boxes using the same hinge. Wharram had big problems with the metal hardware failing on his first boat during the Atlantic crossing... almost lost his rudders several times, thus the motivation to find a different option... and I know you can agree, this is different! But it really does work well...
