Wouldn't the squirt of lubricant just be flushed out with the first use? After all, the piston in the pump does not come down to the base of the housing. If you just squirt a blob of lubricant into the pump, the lubricant may just adhere to the cylinder wall below the piston & never be spread on the surfaces where it needs to be. Seems to me, the piston would have to be in the up position and the lubricant spread directly onto the housing walls as much as possible - or perhaps I'm just being anal.
