I really don't know the difference but per our Operations Manual, they can have 8g for Lithium Ion batteries.

Each air carrier operates in accordance with their own Operations Manual which are literally signed by the FAA. Generally they are no less stringent than the underlying FAA requirements but sometimes companies get waivers and/or exceptions for things. The bottom line is that if you have any questions about carrying something, you need to talk to the air carrier.
