I had a similar experience with a sail maker. I got a good price and he came on the boat and measured. I then returned to my home port, 1500 miles away, and the sail was sent to me. I fit, but was not a great fit. I sent it back to him with my comments, and it was returned and was certainly better, but not perfect. I would not go through that experience again. I want a sail maker to measure my boat, make the sail, bend it on and then go sailing with me to make sure it is right. If that cost a bit more, so be it. Looking at a sail that is OK but not really right for 8 years is too high a price for me to pay to save a few bucks on the purchase price.
