Why would you run the generator so much?

Just what kind of vessel are you talking about?
I can't conceive of running the generator more than 5 hours a day. That would be in order to run the air conditioner during the hot times of the day in the tropics, every day and that would only come out to 35 hours a week.
What situation would you cause you to run the generator so much?
