There has been discussion here about iPhones and iPads but I haven't seen much about Android phones and tablets. Anyone using boat related apps on Android? There must be navigation and weather apps for Android but I haven't heard anything about them. I'm over due for a new phone and I have heard great things about the Samsung Galaxy S with the super AMOLED display. It's getting good reviews and a couple of my friends have them; one is a bit of a tech-tuner and he has his over-clocked to bump up the performance. That is a bit over the top for me but if someone like that likes the phone it must be pretty good. My view is the Apple phones, tablets and computers seem to be geared toward people that want simple, easy to use devices. People that are really into technology stay away from Apple and Windows and go for open source tools like Linux. I'm in the middle, I like to play around with things a bit but I'm not a true tech head.
I found an interesting comparison on data usage between iPhones and Blackberry. With 500 MB per month the BB can access:
5,000 text emails, 4,000 web pages, 300 photos and 50 minutes on YouTube
whereas the iPhone can access:
2,500 text emails, 2,000 web pages, 100 photos and 50 minutes on YouTube.
The source of this data is at http://www.rogers.com/web/Rogers.portal?_nfpb=true&_pageLabel=WLRS_Plans&category=FAMILY under the link "What can I do with that much data?" on the right side 3/4 down the page. Maybe we should throw Blackberry into this discussion as well. My service provider (Bell Mobility) doesn't seem to have any Windows phones at the moment but it would be interesting to see if anyone has experience with them as well.
I currently have an iPod touch and I think it is great but I'm not sold on iPhone yet. For tablets, I'm not ready to buy yet, I want to see what Android tabs come out in the next year.
