We took a walk up Beech Hill in town over the Christmas holiday with our daughter home from uni(college). On top of the public preserve that is a blue berry barren, is an old restored Scandanavian designed cottage. I often use it as a mark returning to Rockport Harbor as it's visible many miles away out at sea.
This is looking out over Hurricane Island and across the 30 miles of the mouth of Penobscot Bay. When I look at the big bay in the off season, usually from the top of the ski area in town, I realize how little of it I've sailed in over 10 seasons.
Our daughter is back in Scotland at St Andrews as a sophomore. She feels right at home there, vistas like this are common around St Andrews as well.
Some of the first invaders who settled this bleak coast were tough Scotch Irish folk. They may have felt it looked like home.
