Merril, a native of Roatan, has cut off the full length skeg of about three to four inches in height on this older, more tradional style fiberglass boat so it makes a better motor boat than paddle boat. Also, the skeg made it harder to beach the boat. For this work including three layers of 'glass the owner could afford...Merril was paid 160 Quetzales, about twenty bucks. He was ready to move on as he was barely able to make ends meet there.
