I have trouble convincing folks I'm just a simple cruising boat when they spot my hydraulic backstay. Fact is - if you're sailing, the sails are your motor - why not adjust the mixture and advance for best performance. Gad - after you install an outhaul that you can adjust, next you'll be looking at a cunningham and (heaven forbid) a vang! And for the ultimate waste of money (and perhaps improvement of performance) - a traveler?
