I read the reference about heat and strength for Dyneema. I wonder what happens on the America's cup boats where they have a 2-part tackle of what looks like about 3/8" line on a 15 acre main. When watching the Cockpit Cam feeds 2 things impress me. One is how quiet the crew is - nobody raises their voice. The other is the loud groaning when they ease the sheets a bit. Do you think the heat generated by the friction harms the line? No matter, they can afford to replace it after every race.
I'm not to worried about heat shrinking the end since that part gets cut off anyway. Like you I only use 3M 33 tape. None of that cheap crapola. I did do the bury at the specified 2-yarns from where the line came out of the cross-over. In the beginning it looked just like the pictures but after we Klutz-Tested it the line opened up and it moved. Sort of like socks falling down.
